Boy how the world has not changed. It didn’t take long for Brandon Jacobs to turn on the Giants. A team that he received not one but two Super Bowl rings with. We all know the giants had issues with the short yardage game last year and part of it could be blamed on a line that well went thru a lot of changes but as a fan and I think most fans could see is a lot of the blame should go to Brandon Jacobs especially given his size and power he should
have at least gained a yard when it was third and short. Somehow Brandshaw, who is smaller than Jacobs pulled it off when he was in those situations but not Jacobs. Instead of all toe dancing in the back field and hesitation he needed to do more of lowering his body and driving thru the pile keeping his legs churning. More often than not you would see a player hit him in the back field and he just go down. I never understood that since he was suppose to be so big and powerful that someone hitting you leg should not typically stop you a if your that big.
Don’t get me wrong a few years ago when he was running with power looking for contact and driving thru the line there was no stopping him. But you could see a change in the big man after that 2007 Super Bowl and you could see why Bradshaw ended up as the starter. Bradshaw plays more like a power back then Jacobs does and I believe he plays with more will and
heart also. Too often in the past few years you would see Jacobs try to swing it outside instead running up the middle and try to may cuts like a scat back when he is a power back. Of course that is just my View as a fan.
Here is a little from hisinterview with KNBR in San Franciscobelow.
” … we had issues. When I was with the Giants, we had issues down the line. Of course I took the blame for those (because I was) holding the ball. But ultimately, at the end of the day it is my fault because I do have the ball and that’s what people see. But there’s a lot more than that going on.”
It also sounds like he may have felt as if the Giants organization really didn’t want him anymore.
“Well, ya know, they had the best offer for me as well. … At the end of the day we go out and play this game for it being football, what we all love playing,” Jacobs said. “But after you’ve been in the business a certain amount of time, and know that they’ve turned it into nothing but a business, that what-have-you-done-for-me-lately type attitude comes. And that’s what we turn it into as players, and that’s when things happen.”
Well I do whish him luck in San Fransisco and I hope he does well but I am looking forward to who every steps up in the running game to help out Bradshaw and will look forward to a new looking back feild next season for better or worse.
